What changed

The page now retrieves contract code 084691 from the CFTC public-reporting API and labels every snapshot with its report date.

02

Why it matters

Silver combines investment and industrial narratives. Managed-money positioning can reveal speculative participation, but it cannot separate views about fabrication demand, macro hedging, or short-term momentum.

  • Compare net positions with total open interest.
  • Watch changes in both longs and shorts.
  • Do not compare raw contract counts with gold without adjusting contract size.
03

Historical context

CFTC data are weekly Tuesday snapshots. A sharp Wednesday move is absent until the next report, which is why the page avoids calling the reading live.

04

What could change the conclusion

A position classified as managed money can be part of a broader portfolio. Physical inventories, options, OTC exposure, and foreign exchanges can point in a different direction.

Methodology and limitations

  1. Contract code 084691; Disaggregated Futures Only report.
  2. Net = managed-money long contracts − managed-money short contracts.
  3. Percentiles use the same metric and a documented weekly lookback.
