Fiscal-year annual reports and product CSVs can use different period conventions. The 2025 silver product detail remains linked to the Mint’s quarterly CSV rather than being inferred from an annual total.

01

What changed

The latest verified annual report shows 360,500 total gold ounces sold in fiscal 2025: 224,000 American Eagle ounces and 136,500 American Buffalo ounces. The Mint’s machine-readable files now cover bullion issues through 2026 and are updated quarterly.

02

Why it matters

Retail coin demand can reveal stress or enthusiasm that is not visible in futures positioning. It also reflects product availability and dealer inventory, so unit sales should not be read as a pure sentiment index.

  • Distinguish coin count from contained ounces.
  • Separate fiscal-year and calendar-year periods.
  • Check whether supply constraints limited sales.
03

Historical context

The American Eagle program began in 1986. The Mint distributes bullion through authorized purchasers rather than selling investment-grade bullion coins directly to consumers.

04

What could change the conclusion

A decline in Mint sales can mean weaker demand, tighter supply, product substitution, or inventory adjustment. Dealer premiums and secondary-market volume are needed for a fuller physical-market view.

Methodology and limitations

  1. Prefer U.S. Mint CSVs for product-level counts and annual reports for audited fiscal-year totals.
  2. Convert fractional gold coins to fine-gold ounces before aggregation.
  3. Display publication and period dates separately; never label quarterly data as live.
